What this cover is

The Revolver X4s is BAK's hard roll-up. Instead of hinged panels, the top is a mat of extruded aluminum slats with a vinyl skin bonded over them, so it rolls rather than folds. Closed, it sits flush with the bed rails in matte black. Open, it winds forward into a compact canister that straps down against the bulkhead and leaves the rest of the bed clear to the top of the rails.

That roll-up geometry is the reason most people pick it. A folding cover gives you the back half of the bed and stacks a foot of panel over the front half. A roll-up gives you the whole bed opening with nothing overhead — which matters if you load with a forklift, drop a pallet in, or ever carry something taller than the rails.

How it works day to day

Drop the tailgate, pull the release cable on either side, and walk the cover forward with one hand. Two straps and buckles hold the roll in place at the bulkhead. Closing it is the same in reverse; the rails lock along the full length of the bed rather than only at the tailgate, so a thief can't get leverage at the corners and peel a section up.

Security depends on the tailgate. With the tailgate shut and locked, the bed is closed. With the tailgate open, the cover can be rolled by anyone standing behind the truck. If your truck's factory tailgate lock is broken or missing, fix that first — it is the lock this cover relies on.

Worth knowing before you order

• The roll takes up bed length. Opened, the canister sits at the bulkhead and eats into the first several inches of the bed floor. If you routinely carry sheet goods cut to the exact bed length, measure with the cover rolled, not closed.
• Over-the-rail bedliners are a conflict. The rails clamp onto the bed rail itself. A drop-in liner that wraps over the top of the rail has to be trimmed or replaced with an under-rail liner before the cover will sit flat and seal.
• No tonneau is a dry box. The perimeter seals and drain tubes send the great majority of water down and out through the bed drains. Sustained rain, a pressure washer at the tailgate seam, or a deep wheel-well wash can still get past. Anything that genuinely cannot get damp belongs in a sealed case.
• The 400 lb rating is a static, evenly distributed load. It describes snow and light cargo lying across the closed cover. It is not a platform to stand on, and it is not a mounting surface for a point load like a rooftop tent leg.
• Stake pockets stay open; rail clamps do not. The pockets remain usable for tie-downs and stake-pocket racks. A rack that clamps over the top of the bed rail will not fit alongside the cover rails.
• Fifth-wheel and gooseneck. The cover clears most hitch setups, but clearance depends on your hitch's rail height. Send us your hitch model before you order and we will check it.

Installation is clamp-on with no drilling and no permanent modification. Set the rails, clamp them to the bed rails, lay the cover in, and adjust the tension. Budget about an hour with a socket set the first time you do one. One person can do it.
